disposables #2

These disposables document the slightly manic adventures of the past few weeks. I wanted to save some photos for this week and my trip away with my family but I just couldn't help snapping endlessly.
At first I was quite disappointed with how this set came out but I then began to appreciate their grainy quality and contrasting exposure. I adore the surprise involved with film photography, immediately forgetting what you have captured and wondering just how they will turn out. Some of my favourites either didn't get printed (I've noticed Boots seem to develop fewer and fewer of my prints every time I take them, I had 27 photos and they only developed 20 which is very annoying, especially as it isn't cheap–I don't know if this is just part of the gamble of film??) or were so under-exposed which is a little sad, especially as there were 2 of me and my oldest friends which I was really excited to see. Oh well.

These follow Oxford, Barcelona and Brighton.

This past week has been a blur of nights out and days at work and old friends and wine drinking and long train journeys and the disappearance to my favourite town where I deleted all social media and revelled in the familiarity. It is a beacon of safety. I returned feeling a little anxious but with an empowering sense of re-evaluation, about my goals and self and the things I wish of achieving. I intended on unpacking (for the 4th time in less than a month) but then got lost in catching up with everyone's posts and updating my journal.

Here's an excerpt I wrote on my phone whilst sitting on the beach in the dark.
the sound of the sea at night.
the relentless crashing of waves lovingly onto the shore, caressing the sand with their aquatic commitment.
in a head of torment and a world of hate it provides a ceaseless reminder that life goes on.
that nature continues regardless of the qualms of man.
that everything is as it should be.

  1. Such pretty pics, I love Garcia Districts and the Bridge of Sighs one!! But the one of me is the best one xoxo , why does looking at your disposables make me feel nostalgic over memories that aren't even mine?? I swear seeing Barcelona made my heart sigh yet I've never even been to those places. Also, stunning writing from your phone!! Your writing, blows!! me away!! (I googled what oquotic meant for a solid few minutes before realising it said aquatic) x

    1. Hahah ofc. They have such a nostalgic quality about them, like you're looking back at photos of your parents from 20 years ago, even if you took them just last week. I think thats what I love about them. Thanks gal haha x

    1. Thank you!! I think its because some of them just don't develop but I guess thats the risk with film photography!

  3. All the Barcelona photos are amazing because they're so different to the typical pics you see of the city which are overly saturated and super bright. Your film gives a different perspective of the city which is very cool to see. Also, the guy in in the back of the shot of Lexie, Libby and I is so funny. I hope the few days in Suffolk was everything you wanted it to be and more. Your little exert is oddly soothing- keep on writing girl. Sending you good vibes, always!

    1. SO true!! Partly because it was pissing it down and partly because Maria took me to such 'un-touristy' places. Hahah I found that hilarious too, I saw him look as I took the pic, little did he know he'd end up on here. Thank you my love x

  4. Your photos from Barcelona are so gorgeous and so off the cuff, the one in the archway is particularly gorgeous. The photos from Brighton are so cute as well! I would so recommend buying a film camera though, it makes taking film a lot more unpredictable in terms of whether photos are going to turn out all right (and developing the film is the same price) - its worth the investment and I got mine for £15 on ebay x

  6. Love all these disposables, such a contrast of places and scenery! I love and hate the risk you take with film photography, although it's the best when it comes out better than expected. The excerpt is so amazing xo

  7. I adore this post!!! I love seeing your little adventures and am so glad you've had such a fun time. The barcelona pictures are making me SOOO excited, I go in 2 weeks and I can't wait to share all my pictures! I've got a deep love for disposables/ film cameras and used to get pictures developed all the time, I'd go on a night out and people would actually ask 'Lucy have you got your disposable?' like I'm known for it!! I feel like I've fallen into a habit of not shooting on film now and it makes me kinda sad, going to rekindle my love when I go to barcelona and hopefully get some good pics!! Love this post as always!xx
